USEFULL AND HARMFULL BACTERIA நன்மை மற்றும் தீமையை தரும் பாக்டீரியாக்கள்

 1. Different species of bacteria live within our intestines . These bacteria help in ddigestion, prevent infection by other microorganisms and produce certain vitamins.

2. The dairy industry uses a genus of bacteria called Lactobacillus to make yoghurt and cheese from milk. At home, we set yoghurt by mixing milk with a small quantity of yoghurt containing these bacteria.

3. Bacteria are also used in the production of alcohol, vinegar, tea, coffee and tobacco.

4. Many antibiotics, or medicines that kill bacteria, are obtained from other types of bacteria. Certain bacteria also produce vitamins and enzymes.

5. Some bacteria, such as different species of Rhizobium, live within the roots of leguminous plants such as pea, gram and bean, and form nodules. These bacteria convert the nitrogen present in the air into forms that can be used by the plants by a process known as nitrogen fixation. In return, they get nutrition from the host plant. When the plant dies, the nitrogen in its body is released into the soil and can be used by other plants. Several free-living soil bacteria also carry out nitrogen fixation.

6. Bacteria help to clean up the environment REDMI NOTE 8 breaking down organic (of biological origin) or biodegradable waste such as dung, crop refuse, kitchen refuse, fallen leaves and human faeces. In the process, they return the minerals locked in organic matter to the soil and increase soil fertility.

7. Under certain conditions, the decompositionof organic waste by bacteria produces biogas, which is a cheap and renewable source of energy for cooking, generating electricity, etc. The decomposition of organic waste by bacteria is also used to produce compost.

8. Bacteria help in the production of fibres from flax, hemp, jute, etc. The stems of these plants are immersed in water and bacteria act on the stems to loosen the fibres. The process is called retting

9. Some bacteria are used in tanning, or processing, of leather.

Harmful bacteria

1. Fruits, vegetables, milk and other food items are often spoiled by the growth of bacteria in them. Certain types of bacteria also produce some toxins that can lead to food poisoning, Toxins are poisonous substances produced by plants, animals and microorganisms such as bacteria. The general symptoms of food poisoning are diarrhoea, fever and vomiting. However, some types of food poisoning caused by bacteria can lead to paralysis and even death.

2. Bacteria cause many diseases in human beings. Typhoid, tuberculosis, cholera, leprosy, tetanus, diphtheria, pneumonia and plague are some diseases caused by bacteria.

3. Bacteria also cause various diseases in plants and animals.
