THE CELL AND ITS THEORY

  CELL  

            Just as houses are made up of bricks , similarly all living organisms whether plants , animals or human beings are made up of cells. cells constitute the basic structure of a living thing.   Any function performed by an organisms is an outcome of the activity of the cells in its body . This means the cells perform all life functions. It is smallest unit of life that can exist independently.

DISCOVERY OF THE CELL

            The cell is derived from the Latin word cellula .It means small room .Robert Hooke  was the first one to discover and name a cell in 1665.

            All living beings made up of cells.

            Cells are the basic structural and functional unit of living beings

            New cells arise by the division of pre - existing cells.
